“It has been a pure joy studying composition with Jonathan Weir. Jonathan is someone who is driven by such a pure passion for music. His passion for the subject is obvious in every action he takes in our lessons, and I leave each lesson completely enthused to dive in deeper. I have taken from many piano teachers in my life and what makes Jonathan unique is how genuinely encouraging he is with his feedback. He has a way to make you really believe in your capabilities and he is able to work in whatever style matches yours. He is also very accessible and quick to respond. I really like that the experience in studying with Jonathan feels more like two people exploring the richness that music offers, as opposed to a typical lesson. He offers so many thoughts and opinions without judging yours, and he has a very dynamic ability to work with whatever you throw over his way. He is able to show me new perspectives and offers valuable feedback. His personality is such that I feel free to discuss what I prefer to work on and we dynamically steer the lesson in productive directions. It’s dynamic, creative, and so fun. He is always very well prepared and well organized for each lesson. Jonathan is also very humorous in the lessons, albeit in subtle and nonobvious ways. He has a great personality, one that is ideal for both children and adults, he is always filled with contagious enthusiasm.
Jonathan has an extensive knowledge of repertoire and composers, both in solo piano as well as chamber and orchestral works. He is able to relate my compositions to various genres and even specific pieces. He has proved to be an ideal choice to inspire my creative compositional side at such a late stage in my life. In the short time we have worked together, I have already significantly expanded my creative thought, knowledge of musical forms, and gained confidence in my ability to not just play piano as I have throughout my life, but to create music of my own. I highly recommend Jonathan to anyone who wants to experience the joy of composition!”

I heard Jonathan perform piano at a small concert. I played piano for many years growing up and had a wonderful time hearing Jonathan play - his expressivity in his playing and passion for his craft came out throughout the performance and brought back great memories of my own playing. My 10-month old daughter also loved the whole thing!
